Born Uppalapati Venkata Suryanarayana Prabhas Raju in Madras and raised in a Telugu film family — his uncle was the legendary Krishnam Raju — Prabhas debuted with Eeswar (2002) and earned the 'Rebel Star' tag through Telugu hits like Chatrapathi and Mirchi. His career changed scale entirely with S. S. Rajamouli's Baahubali films, whose 2017 conclusion became one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever and turned him into a pan-Indian phenomenon.

Since Baahubali, Prabhas has operated almost exclusively in event-movie territory: the action spectacles Saaho and Salaar, the mythological Adipurush, and Nag Ashwin's sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD, another massive global hit.
