Kahaani 2 Review

Kahaani 2 : Durga Devi singh is the only release of this week and here's the review of Kahani 2

Another sequel meets the disappointing fate. Kahaani 2 is a serious disappointment.
Story:

Vidya Singh (Vidya Balan) is living with her paralyzed daughter Mini in a small town of West Bengal. One day, Mini is kidnapped and in an attempt to search her, Vidya meets with an accident. She is hospitalized and here comes Sub Inspector Inderjeet Singh (Arjun Rampal), who is handling this case. Inderjeet finds a diary through which Vidya’s deep secrets are unfolded. He has to find out whether Vidya is really Vidya Sinha or a murderer and kidnapper Durga Rani Singh.

Script :

Thrill demands twists and suspense and honestly, Kahaani 2’s script has ample of it. But, these twists never stop. Everything was going well till the story of Durga Rani Singh and her genuine attempt to save a 6 yr old but then the writers took a whole liberty and overstuffed the story with all the thrill of the world they can think of, causing a distorted narrative. Police investigation was deliberately shown weak and sometimes, unnecessarily funny. Mass would have loved if the writers would have limited the story to only Vidya Balan and her daughter; nothing else.

Another plot hole is the kidnapper and the mastermind. They were too dumb to plan and the conclusion to their angle was stupid after they have created so much havoc.

Direction :

Sujoy Ghosh fails to recreate the gripping tale he did in Kahaani. Being ambitious is a good thing but it won’t work if you try all at once. Why does Vidya Balan have to narrate everything about her past? Why not let the audience explore it through the cinema. It’s is ordinary and except the character treatment of Vidya Balan, rest of the roles were poorly developed. And in all this storytelling, director doesn’t give any justification to Vidya’s innocence. It seems Sujoy Gosh was more interested in giving us a glamorous ending rather than thrilling end.

Acting :

Vidya Balan does carry two roles in a good way: one of a caring woman, a mother and second of a person who will do absolutely anything to save her daughter.
Arjun Rampal tries to give both serious and sometimes funny punches in the film. Serious is fine and he looks great in the role of an inspector but his transition into different situations such as Inspector and husband is not entirely impressive. He goofs up sometimes, especially as a husband and when he tries to be funny. Jugal Hansraj has only a minor time but he did his roles pretty effectively.

Conclusion:

Another sequel meets the disappointing fate. Kahaani 2 is a serious disappointment. The film gets tangled in its own mess and Sujoy Ghosh’s direction is a big let down.

Rating : ⭐⭐🌠 2.5 out of 5
